    These works were made in the year following the birth of my son. They depict imagery and experiences from pregnancy, birth, and early motherhood. Great Green Grandmother Watched Me Pull a Star specifically comes from a vision I had during early labor (some say labor releases DMT in the brain, bringing profound visions and transcendent connection to all birthing people throughout history), in which I traveled deep into space and pulled a specific star to Earth, soaring down and landing with a thump. As soon as we landed, a gigantic wavelike contraction hit and active labor began. He was born a few hours later, surrounded by green grasslands and prominent grandmotherly mountain islands. Fertilizer Song celebrates the soil horizons made up of bones and rot and minerals and imprints of living consciousness the land carries quietly and lovingly through time. This is a breathtaking awareness to remember to have while producing humans from a long line of other humans. Warm Earth is probably more about the body level guts of it all. Placental.
Green World, Snake Song says that the Garden of Eden is the Earth we still live on. Embrace and protect the imperfect green while we still can — another awareness that having a baby demands.
